THE BOYS SICK ON YOU The Harry May Record Company
The only people who didn’t like The Boys during Punk were elitist arseholes, because you couldn’t dislike The Boys. They didn’t really look Punkish, which hardly helped them early on, in fact they looked like the younger brothers of The Lurkers. Having a core sensibility which was moving between The Buzzcocks in sour poppy tendencies, and Generation X for the inverted poignancy and humour, also made them fade out of focus instead of standing out easily. Honest John Plain, Duncan ‘Kid’ Reid, Jack Black, Casino Steel (which always seemed such a cool name) and Matt Dangerfield, which sounded like a vet with attitude, were okay, through and through. (Most of them are still active, and they now have Vom Ritchie on drums.)
I bought most of their early records, and remember thinking something was seriously wrong when their debut album came out and the sleeve was almost spectacularly shite. However it did contain the opening track of this great compilation, ‘Sick On You.’ An idiotically stupid punk stereotype, possibly unintentional, it contained the jaunty claim, “I’m sick to death of everything you do, and if I’m gonna have a puke you bet your life I’ll puke on you,” which doesn’t actually seem to make sense. How many people do you know who have vengefully vomited?

| Inbetween Christmas and New Year's |
[Dec. 28th, 2009|04:14 am] |
We came back from a week in the mountains today! Christmas was lovely and filled with family, food, and presents. Like it should be! I won't list what I got but the best was a PS3 on which we played Resident Evil 5 a lot this week. I made some feather wings for customers and ran out of feathers 80% into the project O_O;. Hopefully I can find some hidden around the house to finish them up for a January delivery. I usually always have feathers laying around somewhere! Aside from that I watched movies, played with Nemo the pup, played Wii and PS3, did pilates for my back (it's been helping) and we went off for a whole day in the Jeep exploring the mountains and finding giant waterfalls. There was very limited internet due to the dodgy service up there so I was forced to take a break from updating my site, answering emails or otherwise working. It was good. I did entertain myself as promised with formspring, and didn't realize how many questions I've answered till today lol. Check out some of the cool and bizarre questions asked so far lol. http://www.formspring.me/yayahan
Upon returning home, I checked the mailbox and got more cards/presents awww. Thank you scruffyrebel for the card and fabulous Juicy Couture stocking/markers, Thank you roseria for the surprising card from Germany you are too sweet, and of course thank you to summer_queen and faeriedust38 for the kind Christmas gestures you sent.
Tonight we saw "Sherlock Holmes" with dauntingfire and all of three of us loved it!!! I was a tiny bit skeptical because a few friends' feedback was just okay, but we were thoroughly entertained.
Tomorrow is the Lady Gaga concert and I will be meeting Riki at the Fox at 7pm, hopefully in clothing. I seriously am having the hardest time picking out what to wear lol. pixellatedcake, will I see you there, too? I wanna at least meet up before/after to squee over the event, even though we won't be sitting together! Before the concert I have tons of errands to run, and then on Tuesday and Wednesday it'll be a whirlwind of working to finish up products for Ikkicon (Austin, TX) where I will be a Guest, and packing packing packing. vampirate777 will be coming over to help me thank goodness. We leave for the show Thursday early morning. I haven't entirely decided what to do for NYE, it will depends on what everyone in our group will want to do. But I know I'm supposed to host a fashion show NYE evening eep, and while I have submitted all my panels a couple of weeks ago, I have yet to receive my weekend schedule *dies*. No matter what though, if you're going to Ikkicon, you will find me in the artist alley at least! Hopefully not hung over on January 1st lol.
Oh, and lastly, thank you amazonmandy for the user coupon! I signed up for a paid account FINALLY, after a million years. Icons, I need icons!!! |
